Operational Issues on Adaptive Protection of Microgrids due to Cyber Attacks

This paper shows how false data injection attacks (FDIAs) affect adaptive projection in microgrids. Specifically, we implemented a directional over-current relay the CIGRE low voltage benchmark system to carry out experiments manipulate protection decisions via cyber-attacks. The aim of newly proposed cyber-attack is cause tripping and unbalanced conditions microgrid that can result power outages blackouts. study has been validated on commercial relays using real-time digital simulator equipped with IEC 61850 standard communication protocol. These results allow systems engineers understand cyber-physical interactions more closely adapt their schemes accordingly.
